The summary of FNaF 1

Five Nights at Freddy’s game is set in a fictional entertaining restaurant named Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. This is the place for joys, fun, and awesome performances delivered by the animatronic robots in the daytime, but when the night comes, this place is immersed in darkness, horrors and mysteries. You come here not for enjoying foods and other activities, but for working as a night watchman observing the entire restaurant from midnight to 6 AM for five nights.

The main focus of this restaurant is Freddy Fazbear, together with his friends, such as Chica, Bonnie and Foxy. They are all animatronic robots serving and please the crowds in the daytime. However, their actions are kind of unpredictable at night. They start roaming through the building in order to enter your working place. With a full camera system in your hands, you have to track their movements carefully and make sure they are unable to enter your office. The amount of electricity is so limited, you must use it wisely throughout the night. If the power is run out, the security doors and lights will stop working, which can put you in danger easily. The wrong things can happen easily, especially when the animatronics aren’t in their right places, you need to search for them on the monitors as well as keep yourself alive at all costs.

The gameplay of FNaF 1

You sit in an office with some security cameras around and many monitors to check. These cameras will show all corners throughout the restaurant, which is easy for you to watch over the animatronic robots. You can totally view the camera feeds, light hallways as well as shut the emergency doors on two sides, however, you don’t have much power to do those things as it’s very limited for each night, which is why you must utilize your given power smartly.

The gameplay of FNaF 1

With the security cameras, you can totally view the entire building while sitting in your office. If you see one animatronic get close to your office, you must quickly close the doors to fend him/her off! Failing to do this will result in getting jumpscared by them, and that means your game will be over. There are five scary nights that you will experience. If you want to reach the next night, you must stay alive from 12 AM to 6 AM. (It takes 8 minutes and 37 seconds in real time, while 4 minutes 30 seconds on the mobile version).

Besides four animatronic robots mentioned above, there is an extra character named Golden Freddy! He only turns up when you go through a hallucination.

Reception

With a unique gameplay and horror experiences in Five Nights at Freddy’s game, it was well-received by lots of players on the Internet, making the game much more positive to play. Indie Game Magazine expressed a strong admiration for FNaF game because of its uncomplicated take on the horror genre, messaging that the gameplay mechanics, together with the artistic direction, promoted to a feeling of brutal tension, which is only aggravated by how the players probably have the same feeling as the identical restaurants, like Chuck E. Cheese’s.

“Fantastic example of how cleverness in design and subtlety can be used to make an experience terrifying.” is what Five Nights at Freddy’s was depicted. But, the game also received a criticism since it took too long to load when it was launched.

FNAF game received a score of 80/100 by Omri Petitte from PC Gamer.

The general atmosphere of the game was complimented for focusing on the fright and the tension of an incoming danger instead of the arrival of the danger itself that was often carried out in other horror-themed games. But, no matter how unique the gameplay is, it’s still somewhat criticized because of getting repetitive even though the players already master it.

FNaF also received a score of 4.5/5 from Ryan Bates of Game Revolution. He also made a comparison between FNaF and a game called Night Trap in 1992. The complimented that the game did succeed in intensifying the frights of the game, together with the “nervous impulses” of its tedious gameplay would get to “almost OCD-type levels, adding to the tense environment.”. “Horror done right” was all that he felt for the game, but it was kind of short.

The in-game animatronic robots were compared to Weeping Angels by Jeffrey Metuleft from Eurogamer. The Weeping Angels are known as the predatory and hostile creatures coming from the universe of Doctor Who, because of their capability to make some moves when nobody watches over them.

In addition, 4 out of 5 stars was given to FNaF game by Softpedia! Cosmin Anton also reviewed the game saying that it “drifts away from the classic first-person horror survival titles,” however, the “inability to move combined with the limited power available will make you feel quite helpless in front of those relentless robots that just want to share a bit of their ‘love’ with you.”.

Mobile Version

Five Nights at Freddy’s was already released for the mobile platform, namely for Android and iOS devices. The mobile version is still similar to the PC version in terms of gameplay and other features, but there are still several small alterations here. The most noteworthy change could be the behavior of the animatronics so it can fit the shorter time frame to finish a night.

Trivia

Five Nights at Freddy’s took the inspiration from Chipper & Sons Lumber Co. created by Scott Cawthon too. The game had received criticism and negative feedback due to its graphics that was like “animatronics” according to the players. Maybe Scott used that criticism to create Five Nights at Freddy’s.

When the initial gameplay video of FNaF game was released on the channel of Scott, the game apparently got more pixelated. The players could see a graphic of a man with the number 1 on the beginning screen. It indicates that at one point in the development, the player would have possessed restricted lives.

The game doesn’t take place in any specific year, but there are still some players assuming that it’s set in around 1993 since the paycheck at the end of the game suits the minimum wage of the time.

You can see the wrong spells “pizzeria” as “pizzeria” on the newspaper article in the first game.

Five Nights at Freddy’s follows the concept that is very much the same as a comedy film called Night at the Museum in 2006. But the file needed an object bringing things to life at night while the animatronics of FNaF are able to roam at night.

FNaF is also known as the first of two games in the series to possess a Display Resolution Support of 16:9, and the other game is Sister Location. The rest of the chapters only own 4:3. But, the mobile versions are 16:9. This could be a reason why the office in the second and third installations together with the Bedroom in the fourth chapter look more stretched in the mobile versions. But the resolution was altered to 16:9 in FNaF 2, FNaF 3 and FNaF 4 on June 15, 2017. Scott wanted these games to have the similar resolution to the first game and Sister Location.

There was one time Scott joking about a sequel, Freddy in Space was scheduled to be released on April 2016, and he said this in a Steam post. Click here  to see the post. But he did release its teaser on his website, and then it was turned into a mini-game for FNaF World.

You can totally press both Control and P at the same time to pause the game. You apply this method to other games too.

FNaF and FNaF 2 have a cheat code that will automatically skip a night easily. To activate that code, you just hold key C, D and “+”. If you play the second chapter, you need to click the nose of Toy Freddy and hold on it before activating the code.

Only Five Nights at Freddy’s in the series had an official gameplay trailer.

You can catch sight of Freddy outside of the office but he’s never utilized in the Anniversary images of The Office. This is possible to happen when the power runs out.

Scott Cawthon has officially declared the Fright Dome which is the first place.
